FAQ / Troubleshooting

  • That’s normal at times. Try asking open-ended questions (“What stood out to you?”). Don’t be afraid of a little silence, sometimes people need space to process. You can also model vulnerability by sharing first; it sets the tone that honesty is safe here.

  • Don’t panic. Check in personally with people who’ve missed a couple of weeks, a simple text goes a long way. Ask if the time still works for them and remind them they’re valued. If attendance is consistently low, talk with your coach or pastor; sometimes a group needs a schedule tweak or a restart in a new semester.

  • Gently affirm their input, then redirect: “Thanks for sharing, let’s hear from someone else.” Use round-robin style questions so everyone has a chance. If it’s persistent, meet privately and remind them that your goal is shared conversation, not monologue.

  • You don’t have to know everything. A good response is: “That’s a great question. Let’s dig into Scripture together this week and circle back.” Point them toward resources (gotquestions.org) and connect with your coach if you want backup.

  • Listen with compassion, but don’t carry it alone. Pray with them and then connect them to the pastoral team. When in doubt, ask for help.

  • Set group expectations early: start on time, honor the schedule. Use icebreakers to draw people in. If phones are a problem, directly address the topic as a group expectation and remind the group as necessary.

  • Stay calm, listen well, and seek to understand both sides. Keep the focus on Scripture and shared purpose. If it escalates, don’t mediate alone, bring in your coach or a pastor for help.

  • You’re not alone. Leading can be stretching. Reach out to your coach or to Pastor Matt before making decisions. Sometimes a season of rest is needed, and that’s okay, we want you to thrive, not just survive.
